A long time ago old Miss Daw lived in a narrow house on the edge of the town，and young Kate was her little servant.One day Kate was sent up to clean the attic windows，and as she cleaned them she could see all the meadows that lay outside the town.So when her work was done she said to Miss Daw.‘Mistress，may I go out to the meadows?’
‘Oh，no!’said Miss Daw.‘You must n't go in the meadows.’
‘Why not Mistress?’
‘Because you might meet the Green Woman.
昔、ド―老嬢が、町の外れのつましい家に住んでいました。そして若いケイトゥは、彼女の幼い使用人でした。或る日、ケイ卜は、アティック窓を拭く為に、上に差し向けられました。そして、彼女がそれをきれいにすると、町の外に広がっている草原が、すっかり見渡せました。彼女の仕事が終わった時、彼女は、ド―嬢に言いました。「御主人様、草原に出掛けてもいいでしょうか？」
「オゥ、だめよ。」ド―嬢は、答えました。「貴方は、低湿地に入ってはいけない。」
「なぜいけないのですか、御主人様」？
「なぜって、貴女は、グリ―ン婦人に会ってもいいの？」
